Position Overview:

Hathaway Brown School seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and visionary Director of Athletics to lead a comprehensive program that promotes integrity, teamwork, perseverance, and leadership in student-athletes. This highly visible role serves as a key school leader and ambassador, responsible for advancing athletics in alignment with the school’s mission and values.

 

Key Responsibilities:

The Director of Athletics at Hathaway Brown School is a pivotal figure, serving as a school-wide leader entrusted with the oversight and advancement of athletic programming and the physical education curriculum. This multifaceted role entails:

·       Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all athletic programs and physical education

·       Recruit, hire, develop, and evaluate coaches and athletic staff

·       Oversee budgets, facilities, equipment, scheduling, and transportation logistics

·       Ensure compliance with OHSAA regulations and uphold safety and sportsmanship standards

·       Build strong relationships with students, families, faculty, and the broader school community

·       Establish clear systems for communication, goal setting, and program evaluation

·       Strengthen student-athlete leadership and foster alignment across all grade levels and seasons

Qualifications: 

·       Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred

·       5–10 years of leadership experience in athletics or education

·       Demonstrated strengths in leadership, communication, and team building

·       Ability to think strategically, solve problems, and manage complex operations

 

Language Skills: Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking; capable of interpreting documents and communicating effectively with parents and staff.

Reasoning Ability: Skilled in problem-solving, data collection, and drawing valid conclusions.

Physical Demands: Regular activities include standing, walking, sitting, manual tasks, and communication. Frequent reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crawling; occasional climbing or balancing. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally. Reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.

Work Environment: Typically moderate noise levels; accommodations provided as needed.
